At Nio Teas, every matcha is graded Latte, Entry, Premium or Superior. Premium Grade is our refined ceremonial tier: first-harvest leaf (ichibancha), shaded for an extended period before picking, with only the finest young leaves selected. It brings very high umami, very low bitterness and minimal astringency, and it is smooth enough for koicha, the thick preparation, as well as usucha.
The Kyoto Matcha Masudaen sits in Premium Grade because of how it drinks. It blends Yabukita, Sayamakaori and Okumidori, and a delicate creaminess eases into grassy, steamed-vegetable tones before a mild floral astringency refreshes the palate.
This matcha is carefully crafted using a blend of three distinct tea cultivars: Yabukita, Sayamakaori, and Okumidori.
Yabukita, renowned for its delightful vegetal notes and robust umami flavor, has become the most popular tea plant variety in Japan.
Sayamakaori, a relatively new cultivar, is prized for its high catechin content and is commonly used in black teas, but also yields a bold and flavorful green tea.
Okumidori, added to the blend for its ability to impart a smooth finish and a rich, full-bodied taste, adds depth to the matcha's flavor profile.

Tea Artisan: MasudaさんShizuoka
The Kyoto Matcha is cultivated by Mr. Masuda, a skilled tea farmer from Shizuoka who oversees a substantial tea field. During our visit to his farm, Mr. Masuda gave us a comprehensive tour of the tea production process, from growing to packaging.
Additionally, we discovered the various grades of matcha tea that he produces on his tea field. The first harvest of tea plants yields ceremonial grade matcha that is silky smooth enough to enjoy plain, whereas later harvests are used to make matcha that blends perfectly with lattes.
Origin: ShizuokaJapan
As the name would suggest, the Kyoto Matcha is grown in Kyoto, Japan. Kyoto has a long history when it comes to the production of premium matcha tea. The first tea plants to be planted in Japan were planted on the ground of a temple North of Kyoto in 1192. Since then, the region of Kyoto and Uji has been a hotbed of tea production. particularly matcha.

Why Organic Matcha Fields Make a Difference
Tea plants absorb everything from the soil, making pesticide-free farming especially important. The farmers we work with have found a way to grow delicious tea without harming the natural ecosystem.
Nio teas has been my favourite place to purchase good quality teas for a while now, and still they never disappoint me. Their teas are excellent quality, however, I’d like to give more attention to customer service - Nio team has been very kind and helpful each time I had any sort of problem. Their customer service never disappoints, they are very attentive and quick in responding to any queries, hence why I’ve been a loyal customer for a while now.

They are sourcing some of the best organic teas out of Japan and supporting family farmers and the growing organic tea industry as a whole.I have ordered from every vendor for years and Nio consistently has the best prices and selection overall. We ship from warehouses in the US, the EU and Japan — whichever is closest to you. US and EU orders arrive in 4–12 business days; the handful of countries served from Japan take around 10. Business days count from dispatch rather than from when you order, and exclude weekends and public holidays. You'll get a tracking number by email the moment your parcel leaves the warehouse.
We only buy from fields grown without pesticides or chemicals. We ask each farmer directly how they manage their land, visit the plantation and processing facility ourselves, taste every harvest before committing, and check that the biodiversity around the fields is alive. Small family farms don't always carry paperwork — so we verify it in person instead.
Japanese green tea covers an enormous range, and choosing online isn't easy. If you've tried yours and it isn't for you, email info@nioteas.com within 30 days with your order number and a line on what you didn't enjoy. We'll send a different tea of equal or lower value, free. Nothing to post back — keep it, share it, or try brewing it cooler. Once per order.
Email info@nioteas.com within 30 days with your order number and a photo. We'll approve it, cover the return postage with a prepaid label or a reimbursement, and refund you — no restocking fee. Refunds go to your original payment method within 2 business days of the return reaching us; your bank may take another 5–20 to show it.
Unopened items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days. Tea is sealed for hygiene, so opened packs can't come back — but the swap above covers exactly that situation. Return postage is yours unless the item arrived damaged, defective or incorrect.
Orders to the US and EU ship domestically from our local warehouse, so there's no customs charge and no duty. A small number of destinations are served from our Japan warehouse, where your own customs authority may apply import duty, VAT or a carrier handling fee on delivery. Those are set by your country, not by us. Ask before you order and we'll help you check.
I make a matcha latte everyday now that I’ve found Nio Teas.
I no connoisseur of tea but have been drinking green tea for 40+ yr. I always drank it hot and plain but now I’ve discovered matcha latte I am hooked. I drink it iced for summer. So refreshing. I put in Califia organic almond milk with a splash of nutpods vanilla creamer. OMG good! I hardly drink coffee now….weird.
I tried it as a latte which tasted bold, earthy, and ever so slightly bitter which I didn’t mind. If anything, I think the bitterness added to its bold flavor profile. It also left a lingering sweetness that tasted like sweet peas.
loved this matcha ! the color is bright green and the foam very silky and smooth. love the aroma and taste, lovely tones of sweetness and umami. also great for lattes, goes really well with plant based milk !! great quality product i 100% recommend and will be buying again ☺️
amazing earthy taste, beautiful bright green colour and just a delicious matcha that works both sweetened or unsweetened and with any kind of milk. i would highly recommend this!!
exceeded expectations. When opened the package, I was met with the ideal and satisfying vibrant green hue and a deep, fresh vegetal aroma that hinted at its quality.
As an usucha, it offers a bold and complex flavor profile—leading with rich umami and deep vegetal notes, followed by subtle hints of citrus and a gentle touch of astringency at the very end that adds both depth and character.
It holds up exceptionally well when mixed with milk, maintaining its rich and distinct matcha essence rather than fading into the background. The result is a creamy, full-bodied experience that highlights its natural depth without losing any of its boldness.
It’s my first time trying this brand. I love the texture and color of the matcha! It has a hint of nutty flavor to it, which I wasn’t used to, but it’s not bad!
This Matcha is great! Ive tried other matcha from this cultivator before and they are all fantastic! Its creamy and smooth, but still rich in flavor without having that bitter taste that lower quality matcha can have sometimes! So glad I was able to get a good deal as well!
The taste profile chart is the most accurate and unbiased rating chart from a matcha brand. I was pleasantly surprised and would repurchase. Also the packaging has a cute design and is resealable. I would've preferred a tin, However, I'd rather pay a cheaper price for the bag than a higher price for the tin.
